IIS is an easy way to get started using containers and there are many reasons to consider migrating this workload to containers. There are quite a few management challenges for IIS instances on virtual machines that they go over to solve such as:
  • SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificate lifecycle – Using Azure Key Vault we can store the certificate in one spot
  • IIS Application Pools and Websites – Using Azure Migrate App Containerization you can containerize your websites from a virtual machine
  • Hardcoded configurations – Learn to use secrets and configmaps for hard coded configurations that are normally within the IIS application
  • Horizontal scale – AKS can scale nodes up or down to run container pods depending on demand without user interaction
  • End of support upgrade cycles – containers can be easily upgraded with no application downtime
