We are excited to announce the release of 3 Azure Extensions to vscode.dev! These extensions are Azure Static Web Apps, Azure Container Apps, and Azure Resource Groups.

vscode.dev is a development tool that is a lightweight version of VSCode that runs fully in the browser. You can open a folder on your local machine and start coding immediately without any installation required.

So you might be wondering, why vscode.dev? What can I do in the browser? There is quite a bit of functionality that’s available at your grasp and that is fully discussed in this in-depth article. But for now, we will focus on the 3 Azure extensions that just shipped in this tool.

vscode.dev - Azure Static Web Apps Extension

Azure Static Web Apps is a service that automatically builds and deploys full stack web apps to Azure from a code repository. Developers can tailor their workflow and apps are built and deployed based on code changes.

Now to the cool part – vscode.dev has made creating and deploying Azure Static Web Apps super easy! Within a few clicks, developers can have their Static Web App up and running all within the browser. No more having to install “git” or going through 10+ steps to get your Static Web Apps up and running. Additionally, you can also view your GitHub Actions within vscode.dev and manage/create changes without leaving.

vscode.dev - Azure Container Apps Extension

Azure Container Apps is a fully managed environment that enables you to run microservices and containerized applications on a serverless platform. For example, you can deploy API endpoints, host background processing application or handle event-driven processing.

vscode.dev has made this process, creating a container app, extremely simple! Developers can open a GitHub repository in vscode.dev and create an image and host a container directly within the browser all within a few clicks!

vscode.dev – Azure Resource Groups Extension

Azure Resource Groups allows developers to create and manage Azure resources. You can create files, deploy, change the way resources are grouped to fit your workflow, view all recent activities and quickly access resources you’ve recently created in the Activity Log , and create resources.

Vscode.dev has made this process streamlined by bringing all this functionality within the browser. If you open .dev from a GitHub repository, you will be able to manage and see all your Azure resources in one centralized place without the need of installing anything.
