Public Preview: Azure NetApp Files now support large volumes up to 500TiB in size

Published date: February 23, 2023

We are announcing the public preview of the new Azure NetApp Files large volumes feature, allowing the creation of new volumes between 100TiB to 500TiB in size.

Regular Azure NetApp Files volumes are limited to 100TiB in size. Azure NetApp Files large volumes break this barrier by enabling volumes of 100TiB-500TiB in size. Large volumes enable a variety of use cases and workloads that require larger volumes with a single namespace, like HPC in the EDA and O&G space. Additional benefits of large volumes are increased performance for both read and write operations, as well as metadata-heavy workloads.

This public preview is currently enabled in the following regions, East US, East US 2, West US, West US 2, West US 3, Central US, South Central US, Canada Central, Brazil South, UK South, UK West, North Europe, West Europe, Germany West Central, Switzerland North, Australia East, Australia Southeast, Japan East, UAE North subject to available capacity at creation time.

Note: Existing volumes created under 100TiB cannot be converted to large volumes and cannot be increased beyond 100TiB.

In the future, this feature is planned to be rolled out to other regions.
