August patches for Azure DevOps Server

This month, we are releasing fixes that impact our self-hosted product, Azure DevOps Server.

The following will be fixed with this patch:

  • Fix identity value error while assigning a work item to an identity which appears in different domains.

Azure DevOps Server 2020.1.2 Patch 2

If you have Azure DevOps Server 2020.1.1, you should first update to Azure DevOps Server 2020.1.2. Once on Update 1.2, install Azure DevOps Server 2020.1.2 Patch 2. Check out the release notes for more details.

Verifying Installation

  • Run devops2020.1.2patch2.exe CheckInstall, devops2020.1.2patch2.exe is the file that is downloaded from the link above. The output of the command will either say that the patch has been installed, or that it is not installed.

    Sorry, but we are only at the point of validating Patch 1 and have run into a problem when patching our proxy servers:
    Error patching files: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path ‘C:\Program Files\Azure DevOps Server 2020\Version Control Proxy\Web Services\bin\Microsoft.TeamFoundation.Framework.Server.dll’ is denied.
    at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath)
    at System.IO.File.InternalDelete(String path, Boolean checkHost)
    at Microsoft.TeamFoundation.AzureDevOpsPatch.AzureDevOpsPatch.UpdateFiles(Logger log)

    CheckInstall reports: Patch 18.181.32606.4 is not installed on this machine.

    The patch worked perfectly on our App/Data Tier.

    UPDATE 2022-08-18: just tried out Patch 2 and that have the same result

      those types of error typically appear when the installed Azure DevOps Server does not have the required version.

      Have you already installed update to 2020.1.2 ?

        Yes, I installed it right before. Also restarted, just in case.

        The administration console reports: 18.181.32404.7 (Azure DevOps Server 2020 Update 1.2)

    Hi,

    I left the following comment in the july patches blog, but unfortunately it is still awaiting moderation…

    Is there a patch or update in the works that delivers official support for Visual Studio 2022?
    Right now we cannot use the build tasks and target Visual Studio Tools 2022, as the latest known version is 2019.

      Maybe support will happen on the 1 year anniversary of Visual Studio 2022 release 😛

    does this patch consider a accumulative patch where it fixes the log4j vulnerability? understand that from this link: https://devblogs.microsoft.com/devops/azure-devops-server-and-team-foundation-server-patches/ it should have already fix: Addressed Elasticsearch vulnerability by removing the jndilookup class from log4j binaries.
    how to check whether azure DevOps Server 2020 1.2 update 2 has address this issue since this is the latest patch ?
